Indoor bench cushions are made to measure for the benches inside your home: kitchen nook benches, breakfast banquettes, dining benches and entryway benches. At ZIPCushions, all custom bench cushions are is cut to your exact length, width and thickness, filled with high-density foam, and finished with a removable YKK zippered cover in the fabric you pick. You send us the measurements. We send back a cushion that fits your bench, and nobody else's.

If there is a hard bench in your house, there is a cushion for it. Our customers look for the bench cushion indoor collection and shop these cushions the  most:

  • Kitchen nook and breakfast banquette — the bench that gets used three times day, every day.
  • Dining benches and built-in banquettes — so a long dinner stays comfortable to the end of it.
  • Bay nooks and reading benches — see our window seat cushions.
  • Entryway, hallway and mudroom benches — see our mudroom bench cushions for shoe-and-boot traffic.
  • Piano benches, vanity stools and end-of-bed benches — small cushions, cut just as precisely.
  • Built-in storage benches and toy benches — sized to clear the lid so it still opens.

Cut to your bench, down to the quarter inch

A store-bought cushion is made for an average bench, which is another way of saying it was made for nobody's bench. Yours is cut to the length, width and thickness you give us, in the shape you give us, with the corners squared or softened the way your bench actually sits. Nothing overhangs. Nothing slides. Nothing leaves a two-inch gap at one end.

High-density foam that keeps its shape

Indoor bench cushions get sat on hard and often, usually in the same spot. We build ours on high-density foam wrapped in a layer of batting, which is what stops a cushion from flattening into a dip where everyone sits. It stays level under you on year three the way it did in week one. For a softer, more relaxed look, fiberfill is available instead, and dry fast foam is there if the bench is somewhere damp, like a sunroom or a pool house entry.

Fabrics chosen for how you actually live

The kitchen bench cushion will meet spilled juice. The entry bench will meet wet coats. We help you match the fabric to the room rather than to a photograph, so the cushion still looks right after the year it just had. Covers come off with a heavy-duty YKK zipper, so cleaning does not mean replacing.

Any length, width and thickness — rectangles, squares, angled ends, and shaped fronts

  • Foam options: high-density foam, dry fast foam, or fiberfill
  • 1,500+ indoor and outdoor fabrics
  • Removable, zippered covers with heavy-duty YKK® zippers
  • Optional piping, ties and button tufting
  • Matching bolsters and throw pillows made in the same fabric
  • Multiple cushions to different sizes in one order — useful for an L-shaped nook
  • Backed by our perfect-fit warranty

Choose from 1,500+ indoor and outdoor fabrics, which means the cushion is matched to the room rather than to whatever the shelf happened to have. Indoor benches suit plain and textured velvets, chenilles, linen blends, jacquards and textured polyesters, all of which give a kitchen nook or dining banquette the softness a hard bench is missing. For a bench that sits in direct sun — a sunroom bench, a landing that catches the afternoon light, a bench set under a south-facing window — fade-resistant performance weaves such as Sunbrella® and Agora® are worth the upgrade, because indoor sunlight fades a fabric just as thoroughly as outdoor sunlight does, only more slowly and in one stripe across the seat. Families with young children and pets tend toward the spill-resistant and easy-clean weaves, which release most of what gets dropped on them with a damp cloth. Every fabric in the range is picked for how it wears, not just how it photographs, and every cover is removable, so the fabric you fall for is a fabric you can keep clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Two to three inches suits most dining and kitchen nook benches — thick enough to be comfortable through a long meal, thin enough that the table height still works once you are sitting on it. Reading benches and built-in nooks are usually more comfortable at three to four inches, since people sit longer and lean back. If the bench sits under a table, measure from the bench top to the underside of the table before you choose; adding three inches of cushion to a bench that already sits close to the table is the single most common sizing regret.

Measure the bench top itself, not the space around it: length front edge to front edge, then depth front to back, both at the widest point. If the nook is L-shaped or the bench meets a wall at an angle, measure each straight run separately and tell us where they join, and we will cut the pieces to meet cleanly instead of overlapping at the corner. Give us the raw bench measurements rather than subtracting anything for fit — we do that part.

High-density foam for almost every indoor bench: it holds its shape under daily sitting and does not dip in the middle. Fiberfill is the choice when you want a softer, more relaxed cushion that sinks a little, better suited to a reading bench than a dining one. Dry fast foam is the option for indoor benches in damp rooms — sunroom, pool house entry, a bench by a back door that stays humid — because it lets moisture pass through instead of holding it.

Standard indoor fabrics will lighten over time in a window that gets strong direct sun, usually first along the front edge where the light lands longest. If your bench is in that kind of window, a fade-resistant performance weave is the answer, and it costs less than replacing a faded cushion twice. A north-facing or shaded window is fine with any indoor fabric in the range.

Yes to all three. Piping gives the cushion a defined edge and helps it read as built-in rather than placed on top, which suits banquettes and built-in benches. Ties keep a cushion from creeping forward on a bench with a back or a spindle rail. Button tufting adds structure and stops the cover from shifting on longer cushions. You can also mix them — piped edge with ties at the back is the most common combination for a kitchen nook.

Every cushion comes with a removable cover on a heavy-duty YKK® zipper, so the cover comes off the foam completely rather than being wrestled around it. Care depends on the fabric you choose and comes with your order, but the principle holds across the range: you clean the cover, you keep the cushion. On a kitchen or entry bench, that is the difference between a cushion that lasts a season and one that lasts years.

The typical thickness of a breakfast nook bench cushion is 2 to 4 inches. 3 inches is best for maximum comfort. If you want it a little more, aim for 4 inches, not more than that. Make sure it matches your dining table height for a comfortable meal session.

The best fabrics for a dining bench cushion are stain-resistant performance textiles like faux leather, vinyl, and acrylics, as they are naturally resistant to stains and are easy to clean, making them best suited for dining applications.

Yes, you can. While ordering for custom bench cushion indoor applications, pick the foam during customization. Three types of foam selection are available at ZIPCushions; choose from high-density foam, fiber fill, and dry fast foam, whichever suits best to your requirements.

Extremely happy with this purchase

I ordered outdoor chair cushions and couch cushion to replace my existing outdoor furniture. I was nervous as this was all done over email and was not sure that they would come out as well as they did. I highly recommend this company. I am very happy with my cushions and they look great. It did take a little longer than their time indicated on their website, but it was worth the wait
