First of all, you will need the tools: a measuring tape, a pen, and paper. Then, start by removing the cushion cover and laying it flat. Measure height from top to bottom minus seat cushion thickness if it is on top, width from seam to seam, and finally, the thickness from front to back. If in case you are not measuring the cushion but the furniture frame, make sure to subtract the seat cushion thickness from the overall height.
A recommended thickness for back cushions is between 3 to 5 inches. Choosing a thickness less than 3 inches will not provide enough support, while a thickness of over inches will make it bulky and uncomfortable.
