ZIPCushions FAQs

Product

Do you just sell cushion covers or cushion inserts?

We sell both cushion covers and cushion inserts.

What's the standard size of the cushions you offer (back and seat)?

ZIPCushions provides custom cushion solutions and allows you to pick any combination of length, width, and thickness for both seat and back cushions. Though there are some standard cushion sizes, they can be customized in any shape or size.

What is the durability/life of a ZIPCushion?

ZIPCushions are designed to last. Sunbrella and Agora fabrics come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty against fading. The foams are sourced for their quality and, with care, can easily last for 5+ years.

What is Batting, and do your cushions have it?

Batting is the material layered between the cushion cover and the foam, providing padding and structure. It softens cushion edges, gives a crowned look, reduces pressure points, and provides body support. All ZIPCushions include batting.

Are the cushion covers removable?

Yes, cushions have removable covers that can be easily removed for washing or replacement.

Do all cushions include zippers?

Yes, all cushions include high quality YKK zippers unless specified otherwise. Zippers come in various colors and are color matched to the cushion fabric. They are placed on the back of cushions, except for daybed and ottoman cushions where they are attached to the lower seam.

Where are the cushions made?

Cushions are handmade by artisans in workrooms based in India, Mexico, and the USA. Headquarters are in Colorado, US.

Do you offer piping or welting on cushions, and what's the purpose of having it? Yes, piping is offered as an order option. Piping is a fabric-covered strip sewn into cushion seams. It can match the cushion fabric or be a contrasting color. It enhances stitching durability and gives a more crisp, defined look. Note: piping adds ¼" to the cushion dimensions on all sides.

What thickness do you recommend for cushions?

A thickness of 2-4 inches is recommended for seat cushions. For back cushions, a chair back can be 2-3 inches thick, while a sofa back cushion is better at 4-6 inches. Final thickness depends on personal preference and comfort needs.

Do you only customize outdoor cushions?

Both outdoor and indoor cushions are customized, including couch, bench, window seat, banquette, ottoman, bolster, tapered, chair, swing, daybed, and lounge cushions. Also made: RV cushions, boat cushions, throw pillows, pergola covers, and outdoor furniture covers.

Will the cushion fabric be seamless?

For most cushions, yes. Fabric rolls come in a maximum width of 54 inches, so if more than two dimensions of the cushion are more than 54 inches, there will be a seam in the middle.

Is there any warranty on fabrics and workmanship?

Yes, a two-year limited warranty on workmanship is provided from the date of purchase. It does not cover products affected by misuse, negligence, improper cleaning, or lack of maintenance.

Materials

What are the different types of fabrics you use?

A large selection is offered including ultra-durable performance fabrics from Sunbrella and Agora, velvet finishes, leather finishes, striped fabrics, fusion prints, and more for indoor use. Stamskin (Serge Ferrari) is a durable leather finish suitable for indoor, outdoor, and marine use. Velvet fabrics include plain, textured, metallic foils, and sandstone finishes. Floral printed cotton blends, faux linens, and other lightweight fabrics are also offered.

What kind of material is velvet fabric?

Velvet fabrics are soft, plush, and feature a smooth, luxurious texture. Durable and can last decades if cared for well. Made from polyester, available in plain, embossed, bling, and ribbed textures.

How durable are your fabrics? Can I use water to clean / wash it?

Different fabrics have different durability and care instructions. Most are designed to be durable, fade-, stain-, mold-, and mildew-resistant. Some can be washed with water; others may require dry cleaning or spot cleaning. Martindale rating indicates durability — higher is better.

Do you provide fabric swatches / samples?

Yes, fabric swatches are provided for most fabrics on the website. Ordering swatches is highly recommended due to color variations on computer screens. Samples also help assess texture, opacity, softness, and stretchability.

What is the difference between Agora and Sunbrella fabrics?

Not much difference. Both are solution-dyed acrylic fabrics known for durability, fade, mold, and mildew resistance. Solution dying provides excellent colorfastness. Both are luxuriously soft, stain and water resistant, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and child and pet friendly.

What foam do you recommend for outdoor use?

Dry Fast Foam is ideal for damp environments due to its open cell, non-water-absorbent structure and anti-microbial properties. High-Density foam is also recommended for outdoor/indoor use due to durability and weather resistance.

Which are your stain resistant fabrics?

Sunbrella, Agora, Blue Sky Series, Comfort II, III, IV, and New Molfino. Easy to clean and don't absorb spills — perfect for heavily used furniture, outdoor furniture, and commercial uses.

Do you carry real leather fabric?

No real leather fabric, but high-grade faux leather is available for indoor and outdoor cushions. Collections include Artico Leather, Napoleon Leather, and Stamskin Top by Serge Ferrari.

How do I know if my cushion fabrics are machine washable?

Depends on fabric type. Some are machine washable; others require special care or dry cleaning. Follow care instructions carefully — use gentle cycle, mild detergent, and wash covers separately. When unsure, hand wash or use a professional cleaner.

Do you have pet friendly cushion fabrics?

Yes:

  • Velvet Retreat Flow Suede (Indoor, Washable)
  • New Molfino Chenille Soft (Indoor, Washable)
  • Blue Sky (Indoor, Outdoor, Machine Washable)
  • Sunbrella, Agora (Outdoor, Machine washable)

What is the best foam to use for outdoor cushions?

Dry Fast Foam is most suitable for outdoor seat cushions, boats, and pool sides due to faster drying. High density foam works in outdoor settings protected from continuous dampness. For back cushions and throw pillows, fiber fill is best.

How is high density foam different from regular foam?

High density foam is denser, more resilient, and longer-lasting. It provides robust support and retains shape over time, while regular foam offers softer cushioning. High density is preferred for high-traffic seating.

Where is high density foam commonly used?

Seat cushions, dining chair pads, bench cushions, ottomans, daybed cushions, RV/Camper beds, dinettes, and boat cushions. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

What is the typical life of your foam?

With proper care, foam should typically last up to 10 years (no guarantee as it depends on use and care).

Do you sell only foam?

Yes, foam-only inserts are sold without the outer cushion cover.

Is your high density foam soft or firm?

A balance between softness and firmness. Technical specs:

  • IFD Hardness at 50% (kgf/323cm²): 34 +/- 4
  • Comfort Factor b/a > 1
  • Support Factor > 2
  • Resilience % ≥ 40
  • Density (lb/ft³): 2.0 +/- 0.075

What are your specifications for Dry Fast Foam?

  • IFD Hardness at 50% (kgf/323cm²): 26 +/- 4
  • Comfort Factor b/a > 1
  • Support Factor > 2
  • Resilience % ≥ 20
  • Density (lb/ft³): 1.75 +/- 0.112
